Photobiological measurements
complete according to IEC 62471
It is possible to extend specbos 1211UV-2 with specific accessories for photobiological measurements. Such measurements are more and more important especially with regard to the modern bright LED illumination and the related hazard to people, in particular to the eyes and the skin. Typical measuring objects are spot lights in studios and during events, machines with UV illumination and LED modules.
The basic facts of photobiological measurements and the specifics with specbos 1211UV-2 are described in the technical note 26.
All 8 categories of hazardous effects defined in EN 62 471 and ANSI/ IESNA RP-27 can be measured with the system, the only restriction is the measuring range of 230 to 1000 nm.
There are several special accessories are available for this task
- Optics for 11 mrad and 100 mrad Radiance measurement with UVOD2 filter (ACC 024)
- Mechanical elements for turning/ tilting (ACC 025)
- Diffusor for Irradiance measurement (Actinic UV and UVA hazard) (ACC 026)
- 80° aperture for diffusor (ACC 027)
- UV filter UG 5 (ACC 021 UG5)
Accessories for the different hazard categories
Hazard category | Name of the accessory | Part number |
Blue light, > 10 000 s | Beam shaping optics for 100 mrad Radiance measurement with internal OD2 filter and external filters OD1 + OD2 | included in ACC 024 |
Blue light, > 10 000 s | Mechanical elements for turning / tilting to find the maximum emission with ACC 024 | ACC 025 |

Eye UV-A, Actinic UV, Eye IR, Skin thermal | Diffusor for Irradiance measurement - Actinic UV and UV-A hazard, measuring area ø 8mm | ACC 026 |
Eye UV-A, Actinic UV, Eye IR, Skin thermal | 80° aperture for diffusor ACC 026 | ACC 027 |
Eye UV-A, Actinic UV, Eye IR, Skin thermal | UV filter UG 5 | ACC 021 UG5 |
Retina, thermal (and weak stimulus) | Beam shaping optics for 11 mrad Radiance measurement with filters OD1 + OD2 | ACC 024/11 |
Please note:
It is recommended in the standard EN 62471 to proceed photobiological measurements with a double monochromator based system. A spectroradiometer with an array spectrometer as specbos 1211UV-2 can be used only if its applicability is proved! Due to the specifics of photobiological measurements it is recommended to discuss the application with JETI to find the best solution.
